The poems that we have read so far have gone right over my head. It seams that poems get so complex that a reader has to read it many times just to understand the "gist of it. I don't know about anybody else, but when I read poems I don't have the creative mind to think of what it means in my thoughts. When I do think of an explanation it ends up being the total opposite of everyone else's and I feel its the wrong answer. I know everyone has their own opinion and own way of thinking but it seems to me that I always go wrong with the poem themes.
The first few poems that we read on Monday were very complex in their wording and made no sense to me. After listening to every ones opinions on what the poems meant I had a small sense of what it could be about. In "Tying the Knot" my group and I thought that it had to do with tying the knot with death; but when we heard the others perception we changed our minds from what we began with. In the other poems, I truly could not get the point of them. Even after the groups described their thoughts, I had no idea to what the poems were about.
I feel that poems are a way for the artist to let out feelings and write about intimate feelings, but I am the person that needs to read a poem over and over again to understand what it means.

The poetry genre lends itself to being rather vague sometimes. You're not alone; I don't completely understand "Tying the Knot" either, but it disturbs me just enough to make me like it.
What images did you like?
Did you think that the person in the poem was coming to terms with life/death, or that they were literally dying? I think your group’s interpretation is more interesting than getting married at the hospital. It adds some personification and a metaphor to the poem. I agree with you that it is hard to interpret the meaning of a poem that is missing the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, why) and how. Last year, and throughout high school I’ve been given a lot of poems like this. There suppose to be overly complex and confusing, it’s just the genre. There are poems out there that people have argued about for years.
Ya I totally know what you are talking about. I mean some poems I understand. But usually, I read poems and everyone else comes up with all these angles and interpretations of them and I sit there thinking what the heck???? I did not get that tying the knot either. I was so completely lost. But I do like trying to figure out what they mean, but after I want to know what the real meaning is and it annoys me when its like well there is no exact answer! But o well what can we do about it
